Banzai game

I thought of this as something that could be constructed in a public park. The eight sections would be concrete slabs. For smaller children it would function as a hide and seek structure, and for older children and adults it would be a court to play a version of dodgeball

Each player has a grapefruit sized "beanbag" to hunt down and hit their opponent with.

Interactive dancefloor

This is a primitive VR setup of which I had a working prototype in the early '90s. Instead of wearing VR goggles, one can see oneself on the four surrounding screens. A single video camera is attached to the ceiling looking down upon the dancers. The software translated the video signal into MIDI triggers. The squares at the four edges trigger different instruments from the rythm section, and by stepping on the dots (or just waving a hand over the area) the dancer creates the melody.

PassePartout organizer

I initially designed this as an organizational aid for film editing. 3x5 cards or photos would represent the scenes and the editor could then quickly re-arange the scenes, keep notes, etc. It is also very handy for keeping scraps of paper, photos, and other junk off a desk.

Mini exercise pool

I built this prototype mini pool in the early '80s. The strange shape was an attempt at minimizing the amount of water while still allowing enough room for various swim strokes. The shape is roughly what you get when imagining the sideways and forward reach of arms and legs.

Catalina Island

We moved to Avalon for a few years after the kids had gone off to college. My wife worked as one of the physicians on the island. Depending on the season, there can be heavy fog at night and in the morning. This made it very hard for helicopter evacuations of patiens who needed emergency surgery on the mainland.
